LL.M. in Medical Law, Bioethics and GDPR in Healthcare

The only postgraduate legal studies in the Czech Republic specialized in Health issues.

The curriculum was prepared under supervision of prof. Alan Meisel, JD, Director of the Center for Bioethics and Health Law at the University of Pittsburgh School of Law, Dr. Jolana Těšinová, Director of the Academy of Medical Law and Mgr. Marek Vácha, Head of the Institute of Ethics at the First Faculty of Medicine of Charles University in Prague.

Health Care is one of the most regulated and ethically fraught industries. A knowledge of medical law and bioethics is essential to work effectively as a health care professional, manager or lawyer in today’s world. This program will not make you a lawyer or bioethicist. When you successfully complete the program, you will still need to consult lawyers and bioethicists. However, this program will teach you very important and related things. First, it will provide you with a basic knowledge of medical law and bioethics that helps you get through everyday situations. And second, it will help you in situations when everything, as we say in English, is way over your head. What I mean is that it will teach you about limits of your own knowledge and expertise and therefore it will teach you when you need to consult a lawyer or bioethicist who has a broader and deeper knowledge. For those of you who already are lawyers, the LL.M. program will provide you with a specialized knowledge about medical law which is a complicated area of law that is not usually studied in a basic legal education. I am impressed with a high degree of knowledge and expertise of the LL.M. program teachers. Students are in very good hands.
